Trots den \u00f6kande digitaliseringen av trycktekniken anv\u00e4nds CTF fortfarande i vissa till\u00e4mpningar och f\u00f6r specialtryck.<\/p>\n<p>I CTF-processen exponeras de digitala tryckdata med hj\u00e4lp av en dator direkt p\u00e5 en film, som sedan fungerar som mall f\u00f6r tillverkning av tryckpl\u00e5tar. Det speciella med CTF-processen \u00e4r att filmen anv\u00e4nds som exponeringsmedium, vilket skiljer den fr\u00e5n direkt \u00f6verf\u00f6ring till en tryckpl\u00e5t (CTP). Normalt exponeras filmen med hj\u00e4lp av en laser, varvid bilden \u00f6verf\u00f6rs till ett ljusk\u00e4nsligt skikt p\u00e5 filmen.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rdelen med CTF var den h\u00f6ga uppl\u00f6sningen och detaljrikedomen i bild\u00f6verf\u00f6ringen. CTF kunde leverera enast\u00e5ende bildkvalitet, s\u00e4rskilt f\u00f6r komplexa layouter, fina detaljer och skuggning. En annan f\u00f6rdel med processen \u00e4r dess flexibilitet: filmmallar kan anv\u00e4ndas f\u00f6r en m\u00e4ngd olika tryckprocesser och format, oavsett om det g\u00e4ller offset eller screentryck. CTF har helt ersatts inom offset, men anv\u00e4nds fortfarande inom screentryck.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e5 grund av det mellanliggande steget med filmproduktion \u00e4r CTF dock i allm\u00e4nhet mer tidskr\u00e4vande och dyrare \u00e4n CTP. Filmen m\u00e5ste produceras, framkallas och sedan bearbetas ytterligare f\u00f6r pl\u00e5tframst\u00e4llning, vilket f\u00f6rdr\u00f6jer hela arbetsfl\u00f6det och medf\u00f6r ytterligare materialkostnader.
